Chocolate Orange Balls

Call me immature, but the word balls makes me snicker like a school girl. I was going to call these truffles, or bites or something, but hey, everyone likes tasty balls right?! Along with enjoying the word balls, I also enjoy a chocolate-orange combo. Like a Jaffa (delicious Australian treat) or a Terry’s Chocolate Orange (average British second fiddle to said Jaffa). So now I’ve made these, there’s no need for any of us to eat any of that sugar-laden supermarket crap.

Method

Put all the dry ingredients into your food processor and whizz for a few seconds to combine. Chuck in the date paste, honey, orange zest and coconut oil and whizz until evenly distributed. The texture should look like dark crumbly mud, but will stick together when you pinch a bit between your fingers. Roll into balls and then in some coconut. Keep in the fridge. This recipe makes approximately 15 balls.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup desiccated coconut ( plus a little extra to coat)
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1/2 cup cacao powder, sifted
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Zest of 2 oranges
  • 5 rounded tablespoons of date paste
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
