Or good evening, because you probs wouldn’t eat this in the morning. Unless it was 3am and you had a skinful, because Asian food is extra delicious in this case.

Caramel Pork is one of those sweet/salty/fatty flavour combos that just work. Like its friends melon & prosciutto, bacon & bananas (on the BBQ, thank me later), vegemite & avocado, its a match made in Heaven (don’t try to tell me vegemite belongs in Hell, because you’d be wrong).

Don’t skip making the pickled cucumber. It takes it to the next level of awesome, I promise.

If you don’t eat pork, this would also work well with protein that lends its self to slow cooking like chuck beef or lamb shoulder.

So you watched ‘What the Health?’ And now you’re thinking “what the Hell am I going to eat now that I’ve turned vegan for the next 2 weeks or until I get drunk and eat a kebab at 3am”? Well don’t stress, I’ve knocked up a family fave so you can force everyone in the house to be a tree-hugger.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for eating less meat and definitely in eating high-quality, ethically sourced protein. My plate is always predominantly plants. However, I do raise an eyebrow when people are a bit basic and make decisions based on a scare-mongering Netflix documentary made by a guy with a dodgy ponytail. Say what? You called a large organisation and expected the receptionist to answer questions regarding the recipes on the website? Be realistic. You were shocked to hear processed sandwich meat is bad for you? If you are eating this crap, you need to rethink your life choices anyway. Oh, and my favourite, comparing eggs to cigarettes. Let’s not be silly.

Ain’t no thing like a chicken wing! This recipe is based off one of the first things I learned how to cook when I was a kid, but they were chicken legs and, wait for it, they were cooked in the microwave. Foul (see what I did there?) But hey, it was the 80’s and it was a different time. I also thought the guys from New Kids On The Block were hot, MC Hammer pants were the epitome of fashion and I’d get up early for school to have enough time to crimp my hair and tease my fringe to perfection. It’s actually quite traumatising seeing some of the 80’s stuff coming back into fashion. If you lived it the first time around you just don’t want to use scrunchies, or wear bicycle shorts (bike optional, camel toe a must) or tootle around in white boots or high heels. So I’m just going to pop The Breakfast Club into the VCR, cuddle my cabbage Patch Doll and pretend its not happening…

Every Aussie kid that grew up in a country town will tell you that the local Chinese restaurant was as exotic as eating out ever got. Mongolian Beef, so fancy. Chicken Chow Mein, oh la la. And behold the piece de resistance….the fried ice-cream ball….

Mind you everything pretty much tasted the same. Greasy, salty, and with a generous helping of MSG. Even as a kid I was pretty repulsed by all the suspect gelatinous sauces (seriously what on earth is that red crap they try to pass off as Sweet and Sour?) As you can imagine, I was a little traumatised by the whole thing and didn’t really think too kindly about Chinese cuisine until I actually escaped my little town and tried real Chinese food. I now feel that creating my own Paleo versions is part of my therapy. Oh, and if you’re ever passing through my town and you dine at the Fong Fong, don’t order a no.56.

Like a knife and fork is so much hassle….
Anyway, like the good wife I am, I usually concede and make a meal that requires one utensil, and curry is a pretty good option.
Don’t be put off by the long list of ingredients, it’s all dry spices that are just chucked into the mix ( that’s right, I didn’t make a paste, so sue me!) I hope this is a hit in your house like it is in mine and you all get a foot rub with the non-spoon holding hand as thanks.

I bloody love a spring roll, but those little grease sticks aren’t exactly health food. I mean they start off alright, with their innards a mix of meat and veggies, then it goes downhill with a wrapping made of flour and cornstarch, then plonked in a vat of bubbling vegetable oil. Phew, that escalated quickly. And while we’re here, who got to name this awful shite “vegetable oil” when it contains not a single vegetable? I mean talk about misleading. I used to hate Brussels Sprouts. The way my nanna used to boil those tiny, farty cabbages up whole and serve them in all their bitter glory made my gag reflex go into overdrive. As an adult, (questionable), I love them. Probably down to the fact that I use cooking methods that stray from my nannas tekkers of boiling the crap out of every vegetable so it was suitable fodder for the old folks home on denture cleaning day. So don’t let childhood experiences make you give these little green health bombs the swerve. Try this delicious slaw and you’ll give a shout out to the sprouts more often
