Paleo Hacks: Don’t Panic if these aren’t organic

That little label stating “organic” seems to be on a lot of products these days, healthy or not. I swear the other day I spotted “organic” Oreo’s and “organic” Mac n Cheese. Yep, Mac n Cheese that’s in a cardboard box. That’s kept on a shelf. What the actual….? People listen up…junk food that’s organic is still junk food. OK, now we’ve got that basic business sorted, leads me to Organic fruit and veg. The availability of Organic and locally grown produce is on the rise here in the UAE, which is great to see. It means the demand is there, which for me means people are taking more of an interest in what they are consuming. On saying that, there are some fruits and veg that you don’t need to spend the extra faloos on….

AVOCADOS – the thick inedible skin protects it from absorbing agricultural pesticides.

WATERMELON – same deal

MANGOES – see above

PAW PAW and ROCK MELON – you know it

PINEAPPLE – are you seeing a pattern?

KIWI – ok, so this guys skin is edible and strangely not as gross and testicle-like to eat as I once expected. The fuzzy skin stops pesticides from penetrating the flesh, so if you’re going with non-organic, be sure to peel it.

ONIONS – because they grow underground, they’re naturally protected from some pests, and then because of their pungency, they’re protected further.

CABBAGE – has a natural resilience to bugs, and the outer leaves protect the inner ones from toxins. So just peel of those and you’re good to go.

CAULIFLOWER – when tested, this legend of a veg showed practically zero pesticide residue, so buy those cheapies all you want!

ASPARAGUS – same deal as the cauliflower. However, organic or non-organic, your pee will still smell.
